MPACT Modules
We offer 3 modules at each grade level and low tech modules for distance learning. Each module covers:
- Grade Level Mathematics: Symmetry, Measurement, Volume, Probability
- Spatial Reasoning
- Computational Thinking
Standards
4th grade
- Explore symmetry for 2D figures by folding. Identify line-symmetric figures and drawing lines of symmetry
- Identify angle measurement (e.g., 90, 45, 30, 60 degrees) and add measures of angle
- Convert within a system, cm to mm
5th grade
- Convert like measurement units within a given measurement system
- Operate on decimals
- Understand concepts of volume and relate volume to multiplication and to addition
- Find the volume of cubes and rectangular prisms
6th grade
- Create nets and use them to find the surface area of 3D shapes
- Find the volume and surface area of shapes made of rectangular prisms and with fractional edge lengths
- Compare the volume of successively smaller fractional unit cubes in order to see patterns and express growth
- Use ratios
7th grade
- Compare surface area and volume of successively larger shapes in order to see patterns and express growth
- Understand empirical probability and theoretical probability and explain differences between them
- Understand, create, and use scale drawings (and relate to proportional relationships)
For all units: Mathematics Practices
- Use the correct level of precision for the situation
- Continually ask, “Does this make sense?”
- Attend to units and the meaning of quantities
- Make mathematical arguments, listen to others, ask good questions
- Apply mathematics to everyday and societal problems
Computational Thinking
- Debugging
- Algorithmic thinking
- Decomposition
